Born during the March quarter 1888 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/693, the son of John Henry & Pauline Helsby (nee Adin). 1891 Census - 27 Clarendon Road, Withington, Manchester. Son - aged: 3 - born: Withington. Head of household - John Henry Helsby - Married - aged: 39 - occ: Cloth Finisher - born: Manchester. Also - Pauline Helsby - Wife - aged: 33 - born: Manchester. Plus 2 elder siblings (including his brother - Cyril Nornan Helsby who was also killed during WW1) and 1 domestic servant. 1901 Census - "Laburnham", York Road, Llandrillo Yn Rhos, Conway, Denbigshire, Wales. Son - aged: 13 - born: Lancashire. Head of household - John Henry Helsby - Married - aged: 49 - occ: Cloth Finisher - born: Manchester. Also - Pauline Helsby - Wife - aged: 43 - born: Manchester. Plus 4 siblings (including his brother - Cyril Nornan Helsby who was also killed during WW1). 1911 Census - "Netherley", Congleton Road, Alderley Edge, Cheshire. Son - aged: 23 - occ: Assistant Manager at Cotton Dyer, Embosser & Finisher Dyers - born: Manchester. Head of household - John Henry Helsby - Married - aged: 59 - occ: Director at Cotton Dyer, Embosser & Finisher Dyers - born: Manchester. Also - Pauline Helsby - Wife - aged: 53 - born: Manchester. Plus 4 siblings (including his brother - Cyril Nornan Helsby who was also killed during WW1). WO363 - Attested into the King's Shropshire Light Infantry - No. 22778 at Manchester on the 29th February 1916. Residing at 4 Tewkesbury Drive, Sedgley Park, Manchester. - aged: 27 years 11 montha. - occ: Stationer's Traveller. 5 feet 6 1/2 inches in height - chest fully expanded: 35 inches - Brown hair - Gey eyes - Pale complexion. His father's address was 16 Argyle Road, Southport, Lancashire. Embarked at Southampton on the 28th August 1916 and arrived at Rouen, France the following day. Transferred to the 1/6th Battalion, Cheshire Rgt on the 10th September 1916. Received a GSW (Gun Shot Wound) in his back on the 13th November 1916 and admitted into the 132 Field Ambulance. Sent down to the No. 11 Stationary Hospital at Rouen on the 14th and died 11 days later at 11.30 am on the 24th.
