Trafford's U.K. Burials Outside of Trafford
I am occasionally asked why service personnel, buried in various parts of the U.K. are not buried at home in Trafford.
The War Office gave the next of kin the option of a burial close to where they died and this type of military funeral would be paid for entirely by the War Office.
Alternatively the body would be delivered to the nearest railway station and from there the family would have to take full responsibility for both the funeral arrangements and the costs of it.
Naturally there is the temptation or the financial pressure to opt for the local burial, but that apart, some families would have simply opted for their loved ones to be buried alongside their other fallen comrades.
