son of William Henry & Hannah Mayers (nee Morton).

1901 Census - His father is now residing at 41, Newcastle Street, Chorlton
on Medlock, Manchester - Boarder - Married - aged: 53 - occ: Mason's
Labourer - born:Manchester.   His mother is still living wiith her widowed
mother, but now at 5, St James Street, Pendleton.   Daughter - Married -
aged: 45 - occ: Machinist - born: Manchester.

Wounded on 30 Oct 1899 at Farquhar's Farm, 10 km east of Ladysmith.  The
farm featured in the action on 30 October 1899 in what has been called the
Battle of Ladysmith, Farquhar's Farm, Lombards Kop or Modder Spruit.    Mr.
Joseph Farquhar was mayor of Ladysmith during the siege of that town.    
The siege of Ladysmith took place between the 2nd November 1899 and 27th
February 1900.

Died of Enteric Fever (Typhoid).

Commemorated on the family gravestone in Sale Cemetery - I.509.

His Mother's maiden name was Morton - his parents married at Manchester
R.D. - Mar Qtr 1875.

His grave in South Africa, is marked with a metal cross in one of the
better kept ABW cemeteries.
