Born during the September quarter 1894 win the Prestwich R.D. - ref: 8d/345, the only surviving child of Isaac & Mary Jones. 1901 Census - 76 Llandaff Street, Prestwich, Manchester. Son - aged: 6 - born: Manchester. Head of house - Isaac Jones - Married - aged: 43 - occ: Iron Founder - born: Shropshire. Also - Mary Jones - Wife - aged: 37 - born: Manchester. 1911 Census - 84 Dane Road, Sale. Son - aged: 16 - occ: Telegraph Messenger - born: Manchester. Head of house - Isaac Jones - Married - aged: 43 - occ: Iron Founder - born: Hollins Wood, Shropshire. Also Mary Jones - Wife - aged: 46 - born: Manchester. Employed as a Telegraph Boy at the Sale Post Office and later as a Postman. Enlisted in August 1914 and was drafted to the front in January 1915. Sent a letter home to his parents stating "I am going into the trenches at dusk with a working party in a veritable death trap and pray to God that I may come out safe". No date given. Died of Wounds received on the 1st July 1916. Death reported in the 14/07/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. |
