Born during either the June quarter 1892 or the March quarter 1893 - refs: 8c/932 or 8c/817, the 2nd son of Thomas Henry & Elizabeth Lilian Brookes (nee Crosby). 1901 Census - 102 Heywood Street, Moss Side, Manchester. Son - aged: 9 - born: Manchester. Head of household - Thomas Henry Brookes - Married - aged: 38 - occ: Commercial Travellerin Wines & Sprits - born: Liverpool. Also - Elizabeth Lilian Brookes - Wife - aged: 35 - born: Liverpool. Plus 1 elder sister. Attended Sale High School. 1911 Census - 109 Marsland Road, Sale. Son - aged: 19 - occ: Junior Clerk - born: Manchester. Head of household - Thomas Henry Brookes - Married - aged: 48 - occ: Commercial Traveller - born: Liverpool. Also - Elizabeth Lilian Brookes - Wife - aged: 45 - born: Liverpool. Plus 1 elder sister. Employed by - Mr. Phetbean & Co, George St, Manchester. Member of Sale & Brooklands Football Clubs. He enlisted in the Manchester Regiment in November 1914 and reached the rank of Lance Corporal. His regiment landed in France on the 10th November 1915. Harrywas commissioned on the 25th September 1917 and transferred to the 17th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. The 05/04/1918 edition of the local newspaper reports that he had been wounded on the 28th March 1918 and died in hospital abroad. The 16/04/1918 edition of the local newpaper reported his death. |
