8a/169, the eldest son of Carl Christian & Fanny Sophia Schaefer (nee
Taylor).

1891 Census - 20 Temple Road, Sale.    Son - aged: 10 months.   Head of
household - Carl C. Schaefer - Married - aged: 28 - occ: Bank Manager -
born: Hulme, Manchester.    Also - Fanny S. Schaefer - Wife - aged: 26 -
born: Stretford.   Plus 1 domestic servant.

Following his mother's death, Herman's Paternal grandmother stepped in to
provide a family home for her son and two grandsons.

1901 Census - 212 Palmerston Street, Beswick, North Manchester.    Grandson

The 31/05/1918 edition of the local newspaper reports that he is missing
and asks for news of him.

Commemorated on the Family Grave A.186 Sale (Brooklands) Cemetery (per
M&LFHS) - In affectionate remembrance of Casper Georg SCHAEFER, who died
March 14th 1880 aged 48 years. (verse). Also Elizabeth, his wife, who died
Jan. 22nd, 1910 aged 71 years. Carl Christian SCHAEFER, who died Oct. 12th
1906, aged 43 years. Also In loving memory of his sons, Carl & Herman, of
the 16th. Batt. Man. Reg., killed in action in 1917 & 1918, aged 28 and 25
years. Stone in front: [ ] Sophia [wife of ?] Carl Christian SCHAEFER, died
20th April, 1893 in her 29th year.
