Born during the September quarter 1899 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/177,
the son of Joseph & Mary Jane Royle (nee Holt).

His parents - Joseph and Mary Jane Royle resided at 20 Egerton Street in
1891.  There were just the two of them - he was aged 20 and Mary aged: 29. 
 They had married in 1890 and there were no children.   Mary Jane Royle
died during the September quarter 1900, aged: 39.

1901 Census - 81 Egerton Street, Sale.   Grandson - aged: 1 - born: Sale. 
Head of household - Gregory Holt - Widower - aged: 68 - occ: Greengrocer -
born: Stretford.   Plus Martha Holt (his maternal aunt) - daughter - aged:
25 - born: Stretford.    Martha Holt had obviously taken over looking after
him as a baby, following her sister's death in 1900.

Joseph Royle is recorded as living with his brother - William Royle and his
family, at 73 Egerton Street, Sale as a 30 year old widower - occ:
Bricklayer's Labourer - born: Sale.

His father married Sarah Ann Brownhill in late 1903.

1911 Census - 47 Elm Grove, Sale.   Son - aged: 11 - born: Sale.  Head of
household - Joseph Royle - Married - aged: 40 - occ: Bricksetter's Labourer
- born: Sale.  Also - Sarah Ann Royle - Wife - aged: 39 - born: Sale.  
Plus 4 younger half-siblings.

Death reported in the 04/10/1918 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. 
Joseph died of his wounds at the St. Luke's Military Hospital, Halifax,
Yorkshire

Buried 30/09/1918 - Burial No. 15,724.   Firing party from the Heaton Park
Depot attended.
