Born during the March quarter 1888 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/181, the son of John & Ann Knott (nee Bent). His parents were residing at 11 Talbot Rd, Layton With Warbreck, Blackpool in 1881. His mother - Ann Knott was aged: 36 and born at Irlam. John's widowed Mother in Law - Sarah Bent, resided with them, she was born at Flixton. His 41 year old father's occupation was then - Proprietor of Dining Room (Eating). By 1890 the family was residing in the Altrincham R.D. (presumably Ashton upon Mersey) as his maother - Ann Knott died in that district during the September quarter 1890 - aged: 46. 1891 Census - Church Road, Ashton Upon Mersey. Son - aged: 3 - born: Ashton upon Mersey. Head of household - John Knott - Widower - aged: 50 - occ: Joiner & Paper Hanger - born: Oldham, Lancashire. Plus 3 siblings and a sister in law. His father married Emma Long in 1891. 1901 Census - 434 Mill Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool. Son - aged: 13 - born: Sale. Head of household - John Knott - Married - aged: 60 - occ: Confectioner - born: Oldham, Lancashire. Also - Emma Knott - Wife - aged: 56 - born: Earlsterndaley, Derbyshire. Plus 1 elder sibling. His father died in 1909 - aged: 69. 1911 Census - Royal Artillery, Port Royal, Jamaica - Overseas Military, Gunner 66th Company Royal Garrison Artillery - aged: 23 - born: Sale, Lancashire (Sic). [Serving in 66 Company RGA]. Killed near to Bapaume and originally buried in Beugny Churchyard, but later reburied in the Achiet-Le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension. His brother - John William Knott was at the time of his death residing at 4 Acresfierld Road, Pendleton, Manchester. |
