of James & Kate McNally (nee Dalton).

A very good athlete and came 2nd in the one mile race at the Belle Vue
Sports Day 1904.

A member of both Longsight Football and Cricket Clubs from 1902 - 1906.

He had been a Billiard Marker at the Stretford, Gorton & Longsight Billiard
Halls, also at the Crosby & Exchange Hotels.

Married - Mary E. Ashley during the December quarter 1911 in the Bucklow
R.D. - ref: 8a/329.   Mary Ellen was born in 1890,  the daughter of Joseph
& Fanny Ashley of 2 South View, Stamford Street, Glebelands Road, Ashton
upon Mersey.  Joseph was employed as a Coal Carter.

Death reported in the 30/04/1918 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.   See
also the 03/05/1918 edition of that newspaper.

Formerly 19270 South Lancashire Rgt.   Transferred to the new Machine Gun
Corps and sent for training at the MGC Training School at Belton Hall,
Lincolnshire.

His father died during the June quarter 1917 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref:
8c/904 - aged: 61.

Involved in the Battle of the Somme 1916 and the pursuit of the Germans
back to their Hindenberg Line in 1917.   He was killed on the Somme during
the German Spring Offensive 1918 - virtually on the day the tide turned in
favour of Britain and her allies.
