Born on the 3rd April 1896, the birth being registered during the June
quarter 1896 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/183, the son of John & Mary
Ellen McDonald (nee Gill).     [No evidence that John McDonald was his
birth father].

His mother Mary Ellen Gill married John McDonald during the December
quarter 1896 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/326.

1901 Census - 1 Court No. 10 Chapel Road, Sale.   The family are listed as
McDonald.   Son - aged: 4 - born: Sale.    Head of household - John
McDonald - Married - aged: 32 - occ: Highway Labourer - born:  Ireland.  
Also Mary Ellen McDonald - Wife - aged: 24 - born: Manchester.   Plus 1
younger brother - John McDonald - aged: 3 - born: Sale.

1911 Census -  Home Office School, Richmond Grove, Chorlton upon Medlock,
Manchester.    Inmate (listed as John William Gill) - aged: 15 - Scholar -
born: Sale..

The family are again listed as McDonald and residing at 18 Chapel Road,
Sale.   John - aged: 40 - Labourer - born: Co. Roscommon, Ireland.   Mary
Ellen - aged: 34 - born: Manchester.   Plus James - aged: 13 and 3 other
siblings - aged from 5 down to 1 month.

Member of St. Joseph's football team.

Death reported in the 04/05/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.
