Married Elizabeth May Griffiths during the March quarter 1912 in the
Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/276.  In 1911, Elizabeth was a Domestic Cook to
George Clayton, Broad Oaks, Washway Road, Sale - aged: 24 - born: Wrexham,
Denbighshire.

His wife received a letter from him dated the 17th October 1917.

Reported as Missing by the International Committee of the Red Cross between
the 20th and 22nd October 1914.

Death reported in the 07/05/1915 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.that
lists his rank as Corporal.  Also listed as a Corporal on the Linotype
Memorial.   Died in the Battle of the Aisne and last heard of at
Armentieres when he was posted as missing between the 20th & 22nd October
1914..

Pension Records - Widow: Elizabeth May Jones, 11 Elm Grove, Ashton upon
Mersey who was born on the 11th August 1886.   They had two daughters -
Florence Jones - born: 8/12/1912 and Doris Aisne Jones - born: 3/10/1914.  
Noted that his widow was not eligible for a grant !!!   Originally awarded
a weekly pension of 18/6d w.e.f. the 14th June 1915, which was increased to
19/- w.e.f. the 9th November 1916.  This was again increased to 24/2d
w.e.f. the 16th April 1917.

William died during the Battle of the Aisne 1914 - it is obvious that his
widow named their second daughter (who William would not have seen), Doris
Aisne Jones in memory of that battle.
