Born in 1895 in Prestwich, the son of David & Emma Hudson (nee Wheeler). In 1891 the family was residing at 59 Bury New Road, Prestwich, where his father ran a Fishmonger's shop. This is undoubtedly where Benjamin was born. David & Emma then had three children. His father died in late September 1897 whilst Emma was still expecting his brother - Harry. 1901 Census - 59 Bury New Road, Prestwich. Son - aged: 6 - born: Prestwich. Head of household - Emma Hudson - Widow - aged: 36 - occ: Shopkeeper - Fish & Game Dealer - bornn: Birmingham. Plus 4 siblings, including Thomas Henry who was also killed during WW1. Emma continued the business in Prestwich for a few more years before moving to 2 Barwick Place, off Washway Road, Ashton upon Mersey. 1911 Census - No Trace. Pension Records - Dependant - Mrs. Emma Hudson (mother). 1 Barwick Place, Sale. States that his name was Benjamin THOMMAS Hudson. Originally served with the Royal Scots - No. 275582. I think that they were getting mixed up with Thmas Henry Hudson, as he served with the Royal Scots with the same number. No award stated. His brother - Thomas Henry also died on active service. |
