Born on the 20th May 1882, the birth being registered during the June quarter 1882 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/200, the eldest son of Henry & Elizabeth Davenport (nee Tipton). 1891 Census - Ashton Moss, Carrington Lane, Ashton Upon Mersey. Son - aged: 8 - born: Ashton-on-Mersey. Head of household - Henry Davenport - Married - aged: 27 - occ: Farm Labourer - born: Ashton-on-Mersey. Also - Elizabeth Davenport - Wife - aged: 34 - born: Stanton Lacy, Shropshire. Plus - 2 younger siblings and his maternal grandparents. Attended the Ashton-on-Mersey Urban District Council School. 1901 Census - Farm House, Ashton Moss, Ashton Upon Mersey. Grandson - aged: 18 - occ: Carter to Gardener - born: Ashton-on-Mersey. Head of household - Edward Davenport - Widower - aged: 63 - occ: Market Gardener - born: Ashton-on-Mersey. His parents and 4 siblings were residing at Derby Road, Ashton Upon Mersey. His father was a Roadman for the local council. 1911 Census - Green Lane, Ashton upon Mersey. Son - Unmarried - aged: 28 - occ: Carter on Road Work (probably Local Council) - born: Ashton-on-Mersey. Head of household - Henry Davenport - Married - aged: 46 - occ: Foreman Urban District Council - born: Ashton-on-Mersey. Also - Elizabeth Davenport - Wife - aged: 54 - born: Stanton Lacy, Shropshire. Plus - 3 younger siblings. Married Emma Moss during the June quarter 1915 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/410. Enlisted in June 1916. Attached to the Advanced Horse Transport Depot at Abbeville, later to the 319 Road Construction Company. Later transferred to the 2nd Bn South Wales Borderers in time to join them in the Battle of Cambrai that commenced on the 20th November 1917 His death was reported in the 14/12/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. Formerly 4540 Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Left a widow and young son. |
