Born during the December quarter 1894 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/187, the son of Joseph & Sarah Bardsley (nee Garner). 1901 Census - 4 Sale Green Cottages, Sale Moor. Son - aged: 7 - Scholar - born: Sale, Cheshire. Head of household - Joseph Bardsley - Married - aged: 46 - occ: General Porter - born: Sale. Also Sarah Bardsley - Wife - aged: 42 - occ: Laundress - born: Sale. Plus 6 elder siblings 1911 Census - 4 Sale Green Cottages, Sale Moor. Son - aged: 16 - Grocer's Assistant - born: Sale, Cheshire. Head of household - Joseph Bardsley - Married - aged: 56 - occ: General Labourer - born: Baguley. Also Sarah Bardsley - Wife - aged: 52 - born: Sale. Plus 1 elder brother and a nephew. Killed during an operation in the Battle of Scherpenberg, near La Clytte. Sustained a German Gas attack at 03.00 hrs on the 29th which lasted until 05.00 hrs. German troops were massing for an attack once the gas had subsided, but were dispersed by British forces. This was the last operation in the Battle of the Lys 1918. |
