Born during the September quarter 1892 in the Wolstanton R.D. - ref:
6b/116, the eldest son of Samuel Thomas Arthur & Jane Robinson (nee
Unwin).

1901 Census - Scholar Green, Little Moss, Odd Rode, Congleton, Cheshire.   
Son - aged: 8 - born: Kidsgrove, Staffordshire.    Head of household -
Samuel T.A. Robinson - Married - aged: 39 - occ: Postmaster - born:
Kidsgrove.    Also  - Jennie Robinson - Wife - aged:33 - born: Kidsgrove,
Staffordshire.   Plus 1 younger brother.

1911 Census - 1 Havelock Place, Hanley, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire.   
Son - aged: 18 - occ: Teaching Student - born: Kidsgrove, Staffordshire. 
Head of household - Samuel Tomas Arthur Robinson - Married - aged: 49 -
occ: Private Means - born: Kidsgrove.    Also  - Jane Robinson - Wife -
aged:44 - born: Goldenhill, Staffordshire.   Plus 3 siblings.

Educated at Crewe Teacher Training College.   The family moved to
"Alvington", Barkers Lane, Ashton upon Mersey    Employed as a Teacher at
Springfield Road School, Sale.

The Runcorn Guardian edition dated the 30th June 1914 reports on an
Inter-Area Children's Competition, that was won by Stretford.   Joseph was
listed as the organising committee's Hon. Secretary representing
Springfield School.   Mr.A.E. Dowson from St. Anne's School was the
Chairman and the Hon. Treasurer was Mr. John J. Coglan from St. Joseph's
School.

Joseph enlisted in September 1914 and sent to the front in November 1915.

Manchester Evening News edition dated the 24th August 1916 reports that he
is missing.  The son of Mr. & Mrs. T. Robinson, "Alvington", Barkers Lane
Ashton upon Mersey was wounded on the 20th July 1916 and has been missing
ever since.   He was educated at Crewe Secondary School and at Crewe
Training College for Teachers.   At the time of his enlistment, he was on
the teaching staff of Springfield School, Sale.   His parents would be
grateful for any news of him.

The 20/04/1917 edition of the local newspaper confirms his death.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918 and the
09/05/1917 edition of the Macclesfield Courier.

Pension Records - Dependant - Miss Gladys Annie Robinson (Sister),
"Alvington", Barkers Lane, AoM.   His sister received a weekly pension of
11/6d w.e.f. the 19th November 1918.

A "Complimentary Dinner" to Members of the Staff of Sale, Springfield
Council School who had served in H.M. Forces 1914 - 1919 was held on Friday
21st March 1919.   The names of five teachers who survived the conflict are
listed, together with Private Joseph Robinson whose name is outlined in
black.
