Trafford

Born during the June quarter 1897 in the Keynsham R.D. - ref: 5c/566, the
son of Joseph & Jane Jefferies (nee Davis).  This was Joseph's second
wife.

1901 Census - Highland Place, Moravian Road, Kingswood, Keynsham,
Gloucestershire.   Son - aged: 3 - born: Kingswood, Keynsham.   Head of
household - Joseph Jefferies - Married - aged: 59 - occ: Boot Maker - born:
Not Recorded.   Also Jane Jefferies - Wife - aged: 44 - born: Not Recorded.
 Plus 6 elder siblings.

His father - Joseph Jefferies died in 1904, aged: 61.

1911 Census - 7 Bournville Road, Blaina, Abettillery, Monmouthshire, Wales.
  Boarder - (Listed as Jeffries - no middle 'e') aged: 13 - Scholar - born:
Bristol.   Also residing as a Boarder at that address was his brother -
Theodore Jefferies - aged: 29 - occ: Colliery Timberman Assistant.

He enlisted at Abergavenny in August 1914 into the Territorials - 3rd
Battalion, Monmouthshire Rgt Service Number 290373.   He was posted to
France in February 1915.  The Battalion suffered dreadful casualties at
Frezenburg in May 1915, part of the Second Battle of Ypres.    It is not
known if he was wounded at this time, but he returned to the UK and
transferred into the Cheshire Rgt.

Married - Elizabeth Ellen Penney during the December quarter 1916 - their
home address given as "Witton Cottage", 9 Grange Road, Ashton upon Mersey. 
  Elizabeth was the daughter of Joseph & Elizabth Penney, Church Lane,
Ashton upon Mersey.   Joseph was employed as a bricklayer.

He was soon back in France and was serving up in the Ypres area in 1918
when the German launched their Spring Offensive.   Fenton was wounded and
died in the No.10 C.C.S. (Casualty Clearing Station).
