Born during the December quarter 1896 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/199, the son of Henry & Emma Greaves (nee Brownhill). Baptised at St. Martin's P.C. Ashton upon Mersey on the 28th February 1897. Emma was Harry's second wife, his first wife Martha died 24/04/1884 aged 37. 1901 Census - "Rose Cottage", 4 Buck Lane, Ashton upon Mersey. Son aged: 4 - born: Ashton upon Mersey. Head of household - Emma Greaves - Married - aged: 48 - born: Ashton upon Mersey. Plus 1 half sister and 2 elder siblings. According to the 1891 census - his father was born in 1854 and employed as a Labourer. 1911 Census - No Trace. Wounded in the Battle of Messines. Commemorated on the family gravestone in St. Martin's Ref: 6b.136. His father Henry 31/08/1912 aged 58 and his mother Emma (Henry's second wife) died 06/07/1935 aged 84.
