Baptised at St. Anne's P.C. on the 6th December 1896. 1901 Census - Davenport Lane, Sale. Son - aged: 9 - born: Manchester. Head of household - Charles Stephen Appleby (Snr) - aged: 32 - occ: Railway Clerk - born: Altrincham. Also - Mary Appleby - Wife - aged: 33 - born: Whittington, Staffordshire. Plus 3 younger siblings including Arthur who was also killed in WW1. 1911 Census - Rutland Lane, Sale. Son - aged: 19 - occ: Baker's Assistant - born: Harpurhey, Manchester. Head of household - Charles Stephen Appleby (Snr) - aged: 44 - occ: Railway Clerk - born: Altrincham. Also - Mary Appleby - Wife - aged: 44 - born: Altrincham ??? Plus 3 younger siblings including Arthur who was also killed in WW1. No trace found on SDGW Listed as Charles Appleby on St. Anne's Memorial. His father is listed in the local 1899 Directory as being a Clerk living at Rutland Lane. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1916. His brother - Alfred Starkey Appleby was also killed on active service. |
