Born during the March quarter 1897 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/847, the only child of Johnathan & Sarah Royle (nee Burrows). 1901 Census - 69 Lily Street, Urmston. Son - aged: 4 - born: Manchester. Head of household - Jonathan Royle - Married - aged: 28 - occ: Foreman Tin Smith - born: Manchester. Also - Sarah Royle - Wife - aged: 30 - born: Staffordshire. 1911 Census - 34 Station Road, Openshaw, Manchester. Son - aged: 14 - occ: Office Boy - born: Ardwick, Manchester. Head of household - Jonathan Royle - Married - aged: 38 - occ: Sheet Metal Worker - born: Ancoats, Manchester. Also - Sarah Royle - Wife - aged: 40 - born: Tarovens, Staffordshire. Native of Higher Openshaw, Manchester. Died during the second withdrawal of troop from the Gallipoli Peninsula that took place from late December 1915 until the 9th January 1916. 18/12/15 - Fusilier Street & Eski Line. 27/12/15 - Relieved and moved back to Eski Line in reserve. Employed on New Fusilier Street & Mule Track. 30/12/16 - To firing line to give support at Russel's Loop, Weavers Venell. Jonathan was killed somewhere in this vicinity. On the 03/01/16 - Bn relieved and back to rest camp. The Bn left Gallipoli on the 08/01/16. CWGC - Only son of Jonathan & Sarah Royle of 59 Hope Road, Sale. Of Higher Openshaw, Manchester. M.I.
