Born at 45 Avondale Road, Toxteth Park, Liverpool on the 30th October 1889,
the eldest son of Francis Edward & Sarah Burdon Vaughan (nee Stoker).   
His father's profession was - Draper's Cashire.

1891 Census - 126 Newland, Salisbury Road, Wavertree, Lancashire.    Son -

Married - aged: 29 - occ: Draper's Cahier - born: Liverpool.    Also -

1901 Census - Roseneath, Whalley Avenue, Sale.  Son - aged: 11 - born:
Liverpoool.    Head of household - Francis Edward Vaughan - Married - aged:
39 - occ: Secertary of Steamship Company - born: Liverpool.   Also - Sarah
B. Vaughan - Wife - aged: 32 - born: South Shields, Co. Durham.    Plus 2
younger siblings.

visitor and 1 servant..

Attended Sale High School and King William's College, Isle of Man.    
Played for Sale Rugby Club, Sale Cricket & Hockey Clubs - playing hockey at
1st team level.

Enliisted in the Artist's Rifles, Royal Fusiliers in 1914.     Commissioned
in the Royal West Kent Rgt in 1915.

WO 374 states:- He enlisted as a Private in the 3/28th Bn London Regiment
(Artists' Rifles), at Duke's Road, ????? on the 11th May 1915 and served at
"Home" (UK) at High Beech, Essex, from the 11th May to the 30th September
1915 - 143 days. He was a Senior Partner in Vaughan Bros, of Canada, (Dry
Goods) and in Carmel Developments, California (Land Development).   His UK
address was C/o 26 Esmond Road, Bedford Park.   He was commissioned in the
2/5th Bn. Royal West Kent Regiment on the 1st October 1915.   According to
his records, which now state that he was serving with the 16th  Wing of the
Royal Flying Corps, he was buried at the Dimitric Military Cemetery,
Greece.   His Letters of Administration grant his estate, valued at £159. 
7.  4d to his father as his next of kin.    He embarked at Egypt on the
25th January 1918 and disembarked at Salonica on the 28th January 1918.  He
was posted to 17 Sqn as a Flying Officer on the 28th January 1918 and was
killed in action in the air between the lines

Formerly served with the 04th Bn [2] Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Rgt).   
Went through all the fighting in Palestine and was wounded at the taking of
Samson Ridge, at Gaza in April 1917.    After recovery back in the UK, he
transferred to the R.F.C.

The first entry in his RAF record states that he went to 22 Training Sqn at
Aboukir, Egypt on the 2nd August 1917 becoming a Flying Officer and was
then drafted to 111 Sqn at Deir-el-Ballah, Palestine (just over Egyptian
border)  on the 12th September 1917.    From 111 Sqn, he transferred to 58
Training Sqn at Suez on the 29th November 1917. and on the 9th February
1918 joined 16 Wing stationed in Salonika.    Appointed Lieutenant on the
1st April 1918. 

He assisted in the bombing of Goeben in the Dardenelles.    Moving to the
Salonica front, he was one of two airmen that attacked an enemy train with
machine gun fire from a low altitude which resulted in the driver of the
train jumping off it and the train being derailed - they continued to fire
on the train and its occupants killing 400 of the fleeing enemy..     He
also witnessed the Turkish evacuation of Jerusalem.

Killed in Aerial Combat with three enemy aircraft.
