Born during the September quarter 1891 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref:
8a/165, the eldest son of Robert & Alice Salmon (nee Wyatt).

1901 Census - 12 Albert Street, Altrincham.  Grandson - aged: 9 - born:
Altrincham.   Head of household - his widowed maternal grandmother.  His
parents were recorded.  Robert Salmon - Married - aged: 33 - occ: Shoemaker
- born: Manchester.  Also - Alice Salmon - aged: 31 - born: Altrincham.  
Plus 2 siblings.

Attended St. Margaret's School, Altrincham.

1911 Census - Orchard Place, Timperley.   Son - aged: 19 - occ: Errand Boy
- born: Altrincham.   Head of household - Robert Salmon - Married - aged:
43 - occ: Bootmaker - born: Manchester.  Also Alice Salmon - Wife - aged:
40 - born: Altrincham.   Plus 7 siblings.

Employed by Miss Whittick, Greengrocer, George Street, Altrincham.

WO363 - He attested at Sale on the 9th December 1915 and was mobilised on
the 22nd February 1916.   He was aged 24 years 239 days, resided at 73
Egerton Street, Sale and employed as a Greengrocer's Assistant.  He was 5
feet 2 3/4 inches in height, weighed 105 lb  and his chest measurements
were 30 - 32 1/2 inches.  He had old Scabies marks on his back.  Posted to
Greece on the 1st September 1916.

The 12th Battailion, Cheshire Rgt moved to Salonika (Greece in November
1915.  Walter must have been a replacement for those already lost.

His father was a Private in the South Lancashire Rgt

Family were previously well known in the Altrincham area.

Killed by fragment of a shell - shrapnel.  Death reported in the 14/12/1917
edition of the Altrincham Guardian.
