BBorn at Levenshulme, Manchester during the December quarter 1888 in the
Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/712, the youngest son of Thomas & Mary Bailes (neé
Clark).  Baptised at Heaton Mersey, Stockport on the 20th August 1890.

1891 Census - 29 Beech Road, Heaton Norris, Cheshire.   Son - aged: 2 -
born: Essex.   Head of household - Thomas Bailes - Married - aged: 36 -
occ: Gardener (Domestic) - born: Essex.   Also - Mary Bailes - Wife - aged:
34 - born: Essex.   Plus 3 elder siblings.

1901 Census - Field Terrace, Ashton upon Mersey.   Son - aged: 12 - born:
Levenshulme, Manchester.    Head of household - Thomas Bailes - Married -
aged: 46 - occ: Gardener (Domestic) - born: Chigwell Row, Essex.   Also -
Mary Bailes - Wife - aged: 44 - born: Brentwood, Essex.   Plus 2 elder
siblings.

1911 Census - 291 London Road, Hazel Grove, Cheshire.   Boarder - aged: 22
- occ: Gardener (Domestic) - born: Levenshulme, Manchester.  His parents
were now residing on their own at 4 Derby Road, Ashton upon Mersey. They
have by now lost 5 of their 8 children - they would soon be losing
another.

Enlisted at Stockport soon after the outbreak of war.  Initial traing as at
Seaford in late 1914, then to winter billets at Eastbourne and finally to
Aldershot in June 1915.  In the autumn of 1915 a combined force of Germans,
Austro-Hungarians and Bulgarians attacked Serbia.   Posted to France on the
6th September 1915, they were diverted down to Marseilles to counter the
Axis forces.   They then sailed across the Mediterranean to Salonica.  
Salonika was not a healthy place to be as Malaria was rife out there. 
Harry took part in the Battles of Horseshoe Hill and Machukova and in 1917,
the Second Battle of Doiran    In 1918 he was fighting in the Third Battle
of Doiran that took place on the 18th/19th September 1918.   They were to
attack 'Pip' Ridge.  At that time 'Pip' was phonetic for 'P' - (today that
is 'Papa').  They lost 152 men with 140 wounded in this operation - one of
them being Harry.     MIC - Victory, BWM & 15 Star.

His mother died 09/06/1923 aged 66.
