Born at Widnes, Lancashire, the birth registered during either the March
quarter or June quarter 1898 (there John Hill's registered during those two
quarters), the son of Michael & Margaret Hill (nee Webster).

1901 - 38 Dock Street, Widnes, Prescot, Lancashire.   Son - aged: 3 - born:
Widnes, Lancashire.   Head of household - Michael Hill - Married - aged: 30

aged: 29 - born: Widnes.   Plus 2 brothers - Edward - aged: 5 - born:

Possible that his father - Michael Hill, died in 1902 down in Farnham -
aged: 29 ???

His mother married Thomas Dunne during the March quarter 1911 in the
Prescot R.D. - ref: 8b/894.

1911 Census - 14 Lunts Heath, Widnes, Lancashire.   Stepson - aged: 13 -
occ: Chemical Labourer - born: Widnes.   Head of household - Thomas Dunne -
Married - aged: 26 - occ: Chemical Labourer - born: Mountmellick, Queens
County, Ireland.   Also Margaret Dunne - Wife - aged: 38 - born: Widnes.  
Plus 1 elder brother - Edward - aged: 13 - Scholar - born: Wiidnes.

M.I. - "Also Edward Hill, Royal Highlanders of Canada, on whose souls sweet
Jesus have mercy".   His brother - Edward Hill died at Montreal in December
1918 (Influenza perhaps ???)

His Canadian attestation form, signed on the 7th September 1915, at
Montreal, Quebec, states that he was 18 years of age, 5 feet 6ΒΌ inches in
height, had a 34/2 inch chest (fully expanded).   His complexion was: fair,
his eyes: blue and his hair: light brown.    The papers also state that he
was a brass finisher by trade and that he had never previously served in
any military force.

Religion - R.C.      He was unmarried and listed his mother - Mary (????)
Hill, 81 Hickson Avenue, Montral as his next of kin.

Post war, his mother and stepfather were residing at 14 Gordon Avenue,
Ashton upon Mersey.
