Born during the June quarter 1883 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/186, the
son of Benjamin & Eliabeth Brookes (nee Darlington).

Their daughter - Mary Brookes was born duuring the September quarter 1912
in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/322.

A member of St. Anne's Christian Brotherhood and was well known in bowling
circles.

He and his brother Sapper William H. Brookes, were partners in the firm of
W.& A. Brookes, Decorators of Sale.   At the time of his death, his brother
was in training with the Royal Engineers.

He was killed instantly when a shell burst near him.  The shell burst
killed two others members of his gun team and wounded another four others.

Death reported in the 26/10/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.   See

Left a widow and little daughter.
