1910 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/172, the son of Kenneth Robert W. &
Katherine Amelia Cox (nee Martin).

Sale.    Head of household - Kenneth Cox - Married - aged: 33 - occ:
Engineer, Gas Engine Designer - born: Tutbury, Staffordshire.    Also -
Katherine Cox - Wife - aged: 34 - born: Liverpool.    Plus his elder sister
- Kathleen (also born at Sale) and 1 domestic servant.

Married Evelyn Mary S. Turner during the December quarter 1933 in the
Manchester South R.D. - ref: 8d/393.   John & Evelyn were residing at
Caernarvon when he enlisted in the RAFVR.

Pilotting a Lancaster MkIII Bomber, No. LM423 PG-H, he took off from RAF
Woodhall Spa at 23.43 hrs on the night of 2nd January for a bombing
operation against Berlin.   The a/c was attacked and shot down by a
night-fighter and was abandoned at 21,000 feet.  Three of the seven man
crew were taken prisoner.

619 Squadron was formed at Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, on 18th April 1943,
as a heavy bomber squadron equipped with Lancasters, and took part in many
major attacks on enemy targets.      A total of 27 Lancaster's were lost on
this mission.
