Born on the 12th November 1911, the birth being registered during the
December quarter 1911 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/311, the only son of
Frank & Sarah Smallwood (nee Pearson).

Married Hilda Tyrrell during the March quarter 1939 in the Bucklow R.D. -
ref: 8a/332.

In 1939, his parents were residing at 21 Lloyd Street, Altrincham - his
father was also a Bricklayer.

Gilbert & Hilda also had a daughter - Joan Smallwood born in 1940.

CWGC - Buried in Dilsen Churchyard (to the rear of the church, middle
left).   M.I. "Sleep well Until His Kingdom comes.  The ransomed of the
Lord Shall then Return".   There are five Commonwealth servicemen buried in
this churchyard - 1 RAF - 1 RCAF and three ERY men.

Commemorated on the private family gravestone in Altrincham (Hale)
Cemetery.

His grand father (who died in 1905) was the landlord of the Waggon & Horses
P.H. in Altrincham.

Left a widow and children.   His widow married Arnold Roscoe in 1955.
