Born during the December quarter 1921 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/284 -
the youngest son of Laurence Wilfred & Florence Langford (nee Berry).

Attended St. George's Day & Sunday Schools.    Employed as an Apprentice
Moulder at Meldrums of Timperley.   A keen footballer, he played for the
Corinthians.

1939 National Registration - No Trace - probably already serving.   His
parents were residing at 69 Moss Lane, Altrincham.   His father was
employed as a Gardner.

Went to France in October 1940, but then found to be only 17½ years of
age, so sent back to UK.    Enlisted in the RTR and served with the 8th
Army in North Africa, returning to the UK in January 1944.

The 2nd, 3rd & 5th Battalions were part of the 1st Heavy Armoured Brigade. 
 Equipped with Cromwell Tanks, they arrived on the Normandy beaches on the
7th June - D-Day+1.
