The Scottish Trader was built in 1938, it's gross register tonnage was 4016, it was 406 feet long, 54 feet wide and could make 9 knots. A cargo ship, it was one of 3 ships operated by the Trader Navigation Co. Ltd, 71 St.Mary Axe, London EC3. South of Iceland, on the 06/12/41, she was torpedoed by U-131 and sunk. There were no survivors and the entire crew of 43 were lost. Commemorated on the private family gravestone in Hale Cem. His father, John died 29/01/1945 aged 69 years and his mother, Mary Lena died 12/12/1958 aged 82 years. His father was originally from Blaina, Monmouthshire. |
