Attended Seamons Moss School. Employed by Hale U.D.C. Volunteered for the RN in 1940. H.M.S. Dorsetshire was his first (and only) ship. His father was a retired Manchester Corporation employee and had served in the RFC during the 1st W.W. In the afternoon of the 5th April 1942, Japanese carrier based aircraft attacked and sank the heavy cruisers Cornwall and Dorsetshire, which were on passage from Colombo to Addu Atoll in the Maldive Islands. 08/05/42 edition of the local newspaper reports that he is missing - with photo. |
