Attended Bowdon C. of E. School. Joined the RN 14 months previously and according to the article in the 12/12/41 edition of the local newspaper, he had just visited Nazareth in the Holy Land. The cruisers, Aurora, Penelope and Neptune, with destroyers, were hunting an Italian convoy bound for Tripoli. H.M.S. "Neptune ran into a minefield and was sunk with the loss of all of her crew except one. Listed as missing in 02/01/42 edition of the local newspaper.
