Born during the September quarter 1917 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/251, the son of Herbert & Ethel Clark (nee Shorrock). 1921 Census - 52, Bromwich Street, Bolton, Lancashire. Grandson - aged: 4 - born: Brooklands, Cheshire. His parents - Herbert Clark - Married - Son in Law - aged: 30 - occ: Chemist Shop Assistant at Boot's, Chemists, 39 Market Street, Manchester - born: Bradford, Yorkshire. Also - Ethel Clark - Daughter - Married - aged: 32 - occ: Home Duties - born: Salford. Plus 1 younger sister and his grandparents with whom they were living and 4 maternal aunts and uncles. Married Annie Kellet during the September quarter 1939 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/884. 1939 National Registration - 23 Wilma Avenue, Manchester. Herbeert E. Clark - Born on the 25th May 1917 - Married - occ: Skilled Lab Assistant Process Dyestuffs Industry. Annie Clark - Born on the 19th June 1917 - Married - occ: All Round Confectioner. Flying with 408 (Goose) Sqn he took off in a Halifax Mk VII Bomber No. NP810 EQ-H from RAf Linton on Ouse at 15.20 hrs for a bombing raid on an Oil refinery at Castrop-Rauxel. Herbert was the only RAF man on board, which was piloted by Flt.Lt. A.E. Reeves RCAF. The aircraft was shot down by Hauptmann Fritz Lau of the 4./NJG 1, who had taken off from Düsseldorf airfield in Bf 110 G-4 G9+AM. Herbert's a/c crashed at a farm on the outskirts of Hochdahl - Trills, at Erkrath, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Reeves and one other RCAF crew member were taken prisoner, the other 5 crew members were all killed. C.W.G.C. - Son of Herbert and Ethel Clark; husband of Annie Clark, of Timperley, Cheshire.
