Attended Altrincham Grammar School.   Employed in a Manchester Firm of
Accountants.    Keen on football and gymnastics.   Married a Miss Irlam
from Urmston in 1940, they had a baby son.

Joined the RAFVR in August 1940 and had undertaken several missions over
Germany, before going missing from a bombing raid on the Ruhr.    Wireless
Operator/Air Gunner.

Flying with 75 Sqn, they took off just after midnight from RAF Feltwell,
Norfolk, in a Wellington Mk1C Bomber - number Z8909 AA for a bombing
mission to Köln, Germany.    The a/c crashed near Köln where the crew
were first buried at the British 1914-18 cemetery in the Zollstock
district.  Their remains were later buried at the Rheinberb War Cemetery.  
  The other crew members were:- Sgty. R.F. Curlewis RAAF;  Sgt. C.M.
Thompson RNZAF;  Sgt. A.C. Edwards;  Sgt. R.L. Warburton;  Sgt. T.R. Murphy
RNZAF and Sgt. F. Garde himself.

His father was in the RFC during the 1st W.W. and his brother Philip was a
Signaller in the Ack. Ack., in this war.
