Born at Sale on the 28th February 1886, the son of William & Ellen Jones (nee Cooper). 1891 Census - 4 Wilson Street, Sale. Son - aged: 5 - born: Sale. Head of household - William Jones - Married - aged: 36 - occ: Butcher - born: Sale. Also - Ellen Jones - Wife - aged: 30 - born: Abden, Shropshire. Plus 3 elder siblings. 1901 Census - 4 Wilson Street, Sale. Son - aged: 5 - born: Sale. Head of household - William Jones - Married - aged: 49 - occ: Butcher - born: Sale. Also - Ellen Jones - Wife - aged: 40 - born: Harmer Hill, Shropshire. Plus 3 siblings and 1 boarder. 1911 Census - No Trace. His parents were residing at 4 Wilson Street, Sale. William - Married - aged: 56 - occ: Butcher - born: Sale. Ellen Jones - Wife - aged: 50 - born: Abden, Shropshire. Plus his sister - Ethel Jones - aged: 17. Married Maria Millward Jones during the September quarter 1926 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/529. They resided at 28 Wellington Place, Altrincham. Maria was born in Altrincham on the 15th March 1893. 1939 National Registration - No Trace. He served in the 1st W.W. then employed as a postman between the wars. In this war he was attd to the Merchant Navy as a Gunner. Taken ill and removed to the Hull Royal Infirmary where he died. Death registered during the March quarter 1940 in the Hull R.D. - ref: 9d/762, aged: 54. Death reported in the 22/03/1940 edition of the Sale & Stretford Guardian. Buried in the private family grave in Christchurch Churchyard, Timperley on the 18th March 1940.. His wife, Maria Millward died on the 23rd February 1960, aged 66. Probate was granted at Manchester to Harold Goodwin (Gas Board Official) and Ronald Keogh (Solicitor) on the 22nd April 1960. Her estate was valued at £980. 14s. 4d. |
