Born during the December quarter 1914 in the Prestwich R.D. - ref: 8d/569, the son of Fred & Sarah Ellen Wolstencroft (nee Steeple). 1921 Census - 27, Tewkesbury Drive, Prestwich, Lancashire. Son - aged: 6 - born: Prestwich. Head of household - Nellie Wolstencroft - Widow - aged: 32 - born: Oldham. Plus 2 siblings and 1 boarder. Attended the Warehousemans & Clerks School, Cheadle Hulme. Employed by the Vulcan Boiler & Generator Insurance Co. Member of Timperley Cricket Club. In Territorial Army before the war. Employed by the Vulcan Boiler & Generator Insurance Company Company 1939 National Registration - 40 Beeston Avenue, Altrincham. Nellie Wolstencroft - Born on the 10th December 1889 - Widow - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties. Margaret Wolstencroft - Born on the 17th May 1913 - Single - occ: Typist at Insurance Office. Robert Wolstencroft - Born on the 28th September 1914 - Single - Serving in the 29th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, T.A.. Death registered during the June quarter 1944 in the Folkestone R.D. - ref: 2a/1605. Buried 10/05/1944. Burial records state that he died at home at 40 Beeston Ave, but the newspaper report states that he died following injuries sustained in a motor cycle accident. The latter is correct as he died at Folkestone, Kent, where he would have been serving on a Light Anti-Aircraft Gun. Death reported in the 12/05/1944 edition of the Sale & Altrincham Guardian. Commemorated on the private family gravestone in Christchurch Churchyard, Timperley. His father, Fred died in September 1920 and is buried in Cheetham Hill Cemetery. His mother, Sarah Ellen died 27/07/1955 aged 65 years. Record up-dated on the 10th January 2010 |
