Trafford

Attended Bradbury Central School.  In August 1938 he joined the RAF, at the
age of 15 years, as an Aircraft Apprentice.   Gained his Wings in Novemebr
1942.

Nephew of Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Denman.

His father, Lt Alfred Denman was serving in North Africa.

The 22/02/1946 edition of the local newspaper states that his father was by
then living at 33 Cedar Rd, Hale.

They took off from RAF Breighton at oo.13 hours in a Halifax Mk III - No.
LV816 EY-N, to bomb Leipzig.  Whilst flying at 22,000 feet, they were
intercepted by a night fighter patrolling near Stendal.  On fire, the
Halifax went into a very steep dive before breaking up at around 5,000
feet, thus enabling two of the survivors to get clear.  The others were not
so fortunate and after being recovered from the wreckage, were buried at
Stendal.   After the end of hostilities, their remains were taken to the
Berlin 1939-45 Cemetery.
