Born in 1915, the son of William & Ethel Louise Nuttall (nee Ratrhbone).   
In 1911 - they were residing at 19 Heyes Street Altrincham.

The "Dungrange" was built in 1914, a coaster its gross register tonnage was
621.    A cargo ship, it had made two previous supply trips across to the
Normandy bridgehead, when on the 09/06/44, along with S.S. "Brackenfield"
she left the Isle of Wight assembly point loaded with a volatile cargo of
cased petrol and ammunition.   She was the last ship to leave the assembly
point and for protection was flying a barrage balloon.

At 0300hrs on the 10/06/44, in position approximately 35 miles north of
Normandy, the rating on watch duty noticed a large explosion on the
"Brackenfield".   The "Dungrange" turned towards "Brackenfield" to give
assistance, when two of the German E-Boats (S177 & S178) returned, to fire
a second torpedo which hit the "Dungrange on the starboard stern, lifting
the stern high out of the water, blowing up the two boilers.

Only two crew managed to clear the crippled ship before flames ignited the
volatile cargo, sinking the ship in less than two minutes with the loss of
17 lives, which included 6 military gunners.      The "Dungrange" was one
of three small cargo vessels to be sunk there that day and she now lies 2
miles north of the "Brackenfield" in a general depth of 46 metres of water
directly north of Courseulles Sur Mer.
