Born on the 21st October 1917, the birth being registered during the December quarter 1917 in the Dorchester R.D. - ref:5a/428, the son of Matthew John Vickers & Julia Annie Mearns (nee Chaldicott). 1921 Census - Mill House, Maiden Newton, Dorchester, Dorset. Son - aged: 4 - born: Maiden Newton, Dorset. Head of houshold - MathewJohn Vickers Mearns - Married - aged: 47 - occ: Self employed Miller & Farmer - born: Cluny, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Also Julia Annie Mearns - Wife - aged: 36 - occ: Home Duties - born: Weymouth, Dorset. Plus 5 elder siblings. Married Zena Betty Mearns (nee White) during the December quarter 1941 in the Sturminster R.D. - ref: 5a/722. They resided at Castle Carey, Somerset. Joined the Metro-Vicker's Company as an Outside Representative in November 1937 employed in the Lamp Sales Department of the London Office. He is not commemorated on the Metro-Vicker's War Memorial that was sitd at theirmain office at Trafford Par, Manchester.
