Trafford

Born during the December quarter 1921 in the Bury R.D. - ref: 8c/896, the
son of Alfred & Nellie Greenhalgh (nee Benson).

He attended Bury Grammar School

He became an Electrical Fitter by trade and was employed at Metro-Vickers
Ltd, Trafford Park.       Died on active service, from Shock & Haemorrhage
from a Gunshot Wound.

No. 41 Air Training School War Diaries exist up until April 1943,
thereafter they are lost.   Very few of their casualty records exist.  The
41 Air Training School War Diary states that he was accidentally shot at
18.00 hrs whilst on guard duty and died at 20.00 hrs.     A member of that
School that I contacted in East London, stated that he remembered the
incident and did not believe that anyone else was involved in the
shooting.

There were two Air Training Schools at East London - No.41 School was
situated at Collondale Airfield, which is now the main commercial East
London Airport.   The other - Woodbrook Airfield (No. 48 Air Training
School) disappeared under a modern industrial estate.   Both Schools came
within 25 Group whose H.Q. was at Port Alfred Airfield (formerly 43 Air
Training School, but now a private air training school).    The 25 Group
War Memorial is still sited at this airfield and Harry is listed upon it.

He was buried at 14.30 hrs on the 23rd September 1941.  His death was
reported in the Stockport Advertiser dated 10th October 1941

Commemorated on the Bury Grammar School War memorial and in the
Metro-Vickers WW2 Memorial Book.
