Extra Information:
Born during the March quarter 1921 in the Hendon R.D. - ref: 3a/696, the
son of D'Arcy B. & Gladys Caroline Buckland (nee Kellaway). His father
was born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1891 and resided at Woolwich in 1911. He
and Gladys were married at Woolwich in 1916. His mother married William
Booth during the March quarter 1930 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/302.

He attended Stretford Grammar School and played rugby for Ashton on Mersey
R.U.F.C.

Received fatal injuries at Tabley, Cheshire at 21.15 hrs on the 11th
October 1939, when returning to his barracks as a pillion passenger on a
motorcycle that was in collision with a car. He had been visiting his home
at Sale, unfortunately his mother was at the pictures - so he never saw
her.

After travelling on the correct side of the road, the driver, a fellow
serviceman - Private John V. Thompson, apparently swerved across the main
Chester Road at Tabley and glanced an oncoming car. The marks on the Road
were some 27 feet long and all on the wrong side of the Road. Private
Thompson survived, but Brian sustained a fractured skull and lacerations to
the brain and died at the Altrincham General Hospital the following day.
His mother, Mrs. Gladys Caroline Booth identified his body.

Death repported in the 13/10/1939 edition of the Sale & Stretford Guardian.
Also mentioned in 17/10/1939 and 20/10/1939 and 24/10/1939 editions of the
local newspaper.

Buried 14/10/1939 - Burial No. 22677. Full military funeral.
