Born during the December quarter 1922 in the Leigh R.D. - ref: 8c/371, the son of Edwin & Jessie Draycott (nee Harrison). Joined the Metro-Vicker's Company as a Probationary Trade Apprentice in August 1937 and became a Trade Apprentice in January 1939. Joined the RAFVR in July 1941, was posted to the Training Command and promoted to the rank of Flight Sergeant. Killed in an aircraft accident in January 1944. RAF Wigtown was situated in the County of Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland - one mile south of Wigtown. From August 1941 until November 1945 it acted as N0.1 Air Observer School, flying Bothas, then Ansons. Renamed No.1 (Observer) Advanced Flying Unit in February 1942. It would appear that he resided at Boothstown, Eccles as he is commemorated on the Royal British Legion Club's Boothstown War Memorial. |
