Trafford

Born during the June quarter 1908 in the St. Olave R.D. - ref: 1d/176, the
only son of Wilhelm Karl & Catherine Roos (nee Dix).   Commonly known as
William Charles and Catherine Roos.

1911 Census - 7 Dalton Terrace, Hulme, Manchester.   Son - (listed as
Wilhelm Carl Roos) - aged: 9 - born: Hulme, Manchester.  Head of household
- Carl Wilhelm Roos - Married - aged: 37 - occ: Practical Tailor (Maker)
Worker at Home - born: Peckham, London.   Also Catherine Roos - Wife -
aged: 40 - born: Flitwick, Bedfordshire.    Plus 4 sisters.  They appear to
have moved from London to Hulme in 1899.

Not been able to find a record of his father's death. 1911><1921.

1921 Census - 22, Sewerby Street, Moss Side, Manchester.   Son - (listed as
Wilhelm C. Roos) - aged: 14 - occ: Monumental Sculptor	with A Morris
Monumental Sculptor - born: Hulme.     Head of household - Catherine Roos -
Widow - aged: 51 - born: Flitwick, Bedfordshire.    Plus 4 sisters.

Recorded as Wilhelm Roos, he married Ethel Crabb during the September
quarter 1925 in the Manchester South R.D. - ref: 8d/350.

Born on the 15th February 1907- Married - occ: Monumental Letter Cutter.   
Ethel Roos - Born on the 11th July 1903 - Married - occ: Unpaid Domestic
Duties.   Their two children are not listed?

Reported as missing in the Manchester Evening News edition dated 13th
February 1942.  Death reported in the 13st March edition.

He was on board the S.S. Waziristan that was in the Convoy PQ 7a.   The
ship became stranded in ice & was attacked by both aircraft and by U-Boat
U-134 and sunk

Convoy PQ 7 was the eighth of the Arctic convoys of the Second World War by
which the Western Allies supplied material aid to the Soviet Union in its
fight with Germany. The convoy was in two parts: PQ 7a sailed from
Hvalfjörður, Iceland on 26 December 1941 and arrived at Murmansk on 12
January 1942. PQ 7b sailed from Hvalfjord, Iceland on 31 December 1941 and
arrived in Murmansk on 11 January 1942.

Commemorated on the private family gravestone in Hale Cemetery, which
states that he died on the 8th January.
