Joined the Metro-Vicker's Company as a Machine Operator in January 1938. Joined the RAFVR in February 1943 and later promoted to the rank of Sergeant. KinA whilst on air operations in July 1944. M.I. "The beloved husband of M.A. Butterworth, son of J. & H. Butterworth - R.I.P." Porcelain Urn states - "A Hero" - our son & brother. 207 Sqn lost five aircraft that night (3 - Lancaster Mk1's and 2 - Lancaster MkIII's), but Sgt Butterworth is not mentioned as being on one of these Bomber Command losses. |
