Born during the June quarter 1912 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref:
8c/1236, the son of Frederick William & Ellen Elizabeth Roberts (nee
Carruthers).

1921 Census - 17, Cambridge Avenue, Whalley Range, Manchester.   Son -
aged: 9 - born: Manchester.   Head of household -Frederick William Roberts

- born: Manchester.   Also Ellen Elizabeth Roberts - Wife - aged: 43 -
born: Manchester.   Plus 3 siblings.

Frederick W (Fred) Roberts - Born on the 25th June 1876	- Married - occ:
Cost Clerk.    Ellen E. Roberts - Born on the 16th January 1878 - Married -
occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties.   Raymond	Roberts Born on the 6th March 1912 -
Single - occ: Foreign Correspondent (Ins).    Nancy	Roberts- Born on the
20th February 1918 - occ: Typist.

Commemorated in the Roll of Honour Section in the Manchester Evening News -
editions 27th & 29th December 1941.   Stating that he died a military
hospital.   He actually died died at 8.45 a.m at Ragmore Hospital,
Inverness, due to heart failure resulting from injuries resulting from
being knocked down by a car.

Further details of the incident were recorded in the Daily Record, Edition
dated the 28th January 1942:

MOTOR CAR CRASH IN THE BLACK-OUT
After a proof lasting several hours in Inverness Sherrif's Court yesterday,
Tainsh Aird, motor mechanic, Oakbank, Lentran, Inverness-shire, was fined
£10 and his driving licence endorsed on being found guilty of driving a
motor-car recklessly and in a manner dangerous to the public.    Evidence
was given that a party of airmen were paraded on a public road in he
black-out when Aird's car ran into them. Seven men were injured, and one,
Rayond Roberts, died.   Mr. John MacBean, solicitor, agent for Aird, said
there had been appalling negligence when a party of airmen were paraded on
a public road without lights to warn traffic of their presence.
Sherriff P. J. Grant said he took into consideration that possibly other
people were at fault.

The family later moved to 20 Leicester Road, Timperley.

CWGC - Son of Frederick William and Ellen Elizabeth Roberts, of Timperley,
Cheshire.

His father Frederick William died 27/10/1973 aged 97 years and his mother
Ellen Elizabeth died 17/08/1959 aged 81 years.
