The Erna was built in 1930, its gross register tonnage was 1,590, it was 253 feet long, 39 feet wide and could make 12 knots.It was one of 29 ships operated by J. Lauritzen, Hammerensgade 1, Copenhagen, Denmark. On the 26/06/40 it became "Erna III", a British - Ministry of War Vessel. Near Cape Farewell, travelling from Milford Haven to Montreal, on the 25/09/41 she was torpedoed by U-562, whilst sailing independently and sank in position - 51.45N 35.15W. There were no survivors, but records do not state how many were lost. |
