H.M.S. Hermione was a 'Dido' class cruiser built in May 1939. South of Crete and travelling at 13 knots, she was sunk when one, possibly two torpedoes, fired from U-205 struck her at 0127hrs on the 16th June 1942. The cruiser was part of an Alexandria to Malta Convoy and she sank within 20 minutes, with the loss of all her 82 crew members. |
