The Doryssa was built in 1938, an oil tanker, it's gross register tonnage was 8078, it was 483 feet long, 59 feet wide and could make 12 knots. A tanker, it was one of 93 oil tanker ships operated by the Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Co. Ltd (Shell Oil) St. Helen's Court, Leadenhall St, London EC3. Off the coast of South Africa, bound to the Persian Gulf, on the 25/04/43 she was shelled by Italian Submarine Leonardo Da Vinci and sank in position - 37.03S 24.03E. There were 11 survivors, but 53 crew/???s were lost. |
