Born in the Village of Brandon, Durham on the 25th June 1890, the birth
being registered during the September quarter 1890 in the Durham R.D. -
ref: 10a/378, the son of Thomas & Catherine Laybourne (nee Faulkner).

born: Brandon.   Head of household - Thomas Laybourne - Married - aged: 35

Luton, Bedfordshire.  Plus 3 siblings and 1 boarder.

WO363 -  Employed as a Miner, he Attested into the Royal Garrison Artillery
- No. 44673 on the 21st August 1914 and was discharged from the Army on the
7th September 1914 as being unlikely to become an efficient soldier.   His
NoK was his wife who was then residing at First Street, High Whitley Hill,
Durham.   He was 5 feet 6 3/4 inches in height.

On the 22nd June 1922 George & Jane emigrated to Canada aboard the HMS
Empress of India.   Their UK address was given as 1 Hartlepool  Street,
Thornley, Durham.   George was a recorded as being a 32 year old Miner and
Jane she as a 31 year old housewife. There are no UK records of the birth
of their children, who were presumably born in Canada.

1939 National Registration - 9 Princess Avenue, Stretford.   A total of
eight people resided at this address in 1939 - Nos. 1-4 were the Laybourne
family.   George Laybourne - Married - Born: 25th June 1890 - occ: General
Labourer at Soap Factory.   Jane E. Laybourne - Married - Born: 1st July
1891 - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties.   There were two redacted records -
presumably their two children - Catherine & George Jnr.

CWD Report No. 72.    Died as a result of falling debris at 28 Stanley
Road, Old Trafford, from where his body was rvcovered at 15.45 hrs on the
9th January 1941 and taken to the City Road Mortuary, Old Trafford.    His
body was identified by his nephew - J. Hutchinson and released for burial
to the Council's Undertaker Contractor - R. Pepperdine, 31 Ayres Road, Old
Trafford.   Employed as a Factory Hand.

Killed when a land mine landed on Stanley Road, Old Trafford.   This was
the worst single incident in terms of loss of life in the whole of Greater
Manchester during WW2.   In total, thirty three persons were killed.

Buried 15/01/1941 - Burial No. 17,939.

CWGC - of 9 Princes Avenue. Husband of Jane Laybourne. Died at 28 Stanley
Road.
