Not a Trafford resident. Born during the December quarter 1906 in the Oldham R.D. - ref: 8d/631, the son of John James & Ann Shawcross (nee 1911 Census - 10 Hardinge Street, Oldham. Son - aged: 4 - born: Oldham. Head of household - John James Shawcross - Married - aged: 32 - occ: Mule Spinner (Cotton) - born: Oldham. Also - Ann Shawcross - Wife - aged: 31 - born: Oldham. Plus - 3 siblings. He married Ada Howe during the September quarter 1938 in the Oldham R.D. - ref: 8d/2245. 1939 National Registration - 35 St. Thomas Street, Oldham. Harold Shawcross - Married - born: 13th October 1906 - occ: Porter & Warehouseman (Jewellers). Ada Shawcross - Married - born: 22nd November 1912 - occ: Comber Temter Cotton Spinning. Lived with Ada Shawcross (nee Howe) at 35 Thomas Street, Oldham. Sent down from his base at Oldham Fire Station to assist the local firemen at Trafford Park during the Manchester Blitz 22nd/23rd & 23rd/24th December 1940. Died at Withington Hospital as a result of injuries sustained at Trafford Park the same day. Death registered in Manchester City. Funeral took place on 31 /12/1940. Listed under "Identified Seriously Injured" on the Manchester Police Air Raid Casualties lists for the 24th December 1940. Service No. 826. Commemorated on the Oldham Fire Brigade War Memorial.
