H.M.S. Mahratta was torpedoed at 22.10hrs on 25/02/44 by 'U.956' 280 miles west of North Cape, in position 71.17N 13.30E (by the employment of a homing torpedo) - 16 survivors. It was a an 'M' class destroyer, of which 8 were built between 1940 & 1942, they had a displacement of 1,920 tons and a complement of 221 personnel. |
