Whilst transporting 200 troops to Leros, H.M.S. Eclipse was sunk by a mine in a new German minefield, at 00.50hrs on 24/10/43, east of Kalymnos, in position 37.01N 27.11E - 140 were lost. It was an 'E' class destroyer of which 9 were built between 1933 & 1934, they had a displacement of 1,475 tons and a complement of 175 personnel. Another R.N. destroyer - H.M.S. Huxworth was also lost in the same minefield at 22.00hrs on the 22nd. |
